My name is Steve Burdett and I am a candidate for Brevard County Property Appraiser.

I graduated from Merritt Island High School in 1977. I continued my education at the University of Central Florida and earned a bachelors degree in Business Administration in 1981. In 1986 I earned my CPA (Certified Public Accountant) license; and in 1994-1995 I served as President for the Brevard Chapter of the Florida Institute of CPA's.

I have been a lifelong resident of the Brevard County community; and in 1985, my wife, Jamie, and I were married. Today, we have three wonderful children, Stefani, Jonathan, and Andrew.

Over the past 25 years, I have worked for the citizens of Brevard County in several capacities. I have been an auditor, accountant, and the Chief Financial Officer of the Clerk of Court. In my current capacity, I perform a numbers intensive job and must follow mandated standards. The Property Appraiser's job is also numbers intensive and has mandated standards. I am confident that my lengthy experience in these two particular areas will make my transition to serving as Property Appraiser a seamless one.

The next Property Appraiser should also bring other characteristics to the office such as:

  • adhering to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and public trust
  • applying the same appraisal standards to all properties so as to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of the property tax burden.
  • commitment to transparency in government
  • being accountable for your decisions
